Summary- eAccess, eMobile, Y!Mobile report:
eAccess is a great success story among Japanese venture startups. eAccess was founded by the legendary serial entrepreneur Dr Sachio Semmoto in 1999 as an ADSL broadband fixed line access provider. Later he founded eMobile as a subsidiary of eAccess, brought eAccess to IPO on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Growth of the mobile subsidiary eMobile exceeded expectations.
While Masayoshi Son was negotiating the SPRINT acquisition in the United States during 2012, he suddenly heard that KDDI was in negotiations to acquire eAccess. Masayoshi Son moved faster than KDDI, and closed the deal to acquire eAccess faster then his competitor. Today eAccess is part of the SoftBank Group, but via a complex shareholding structure (explained in this report in detail), eAccess retains a certain amount of independence from the SoftBank Group.
Plans are to merge Willcom with eAccess, and plans are discussed for Yahoo! KK (Yahoo-Japan) to create a virtual mobile operator Y!Mobile in cooperation with eAccess.
Read this report to understand the growth of some of the most successful Japanese venture startups, from foundation to acquisition by the SoftBank Group.
