Summary

Japan is the world's second largest economy, and correspondingly Japan's media markets are of emminent global importance. Newspaper circulation in Japan is about 72 million copies per day, substantially larger than in the US. Top magazines in Japan have circulation of 4 million copies and more.
Several segments of Japan's have developed trendsetting creativity: for example, manga, anime, movies, mobile internet, and more.
Recently internet and mobile internet increase in importance and partially begin to replace traditional media. This trend to the internet causes a take-over battle between a new internet portal company and one of Japan's largest traditional media companies. The present report explains the media landscape which forms the background to the take-over battle.
The present report describes the development, structure and trends of the Japan's media markets. This report is required by advertising professionals, media professionals, newspaper and TV journalists and professionals who need to be up to date to latest quantitive trends in Japan's media landscape and to develop an in-depth understanding of the trends and characteristics.
Our market reports have been purchased by major global telecom carriers and equipment manufacturers from US, EU and Japan, investment bankers, equipment manufacturers, service providers, University students and professors and many professionals from all over the world. The Government of Finland has engaged us to advise on the research funding strategy for mobile services, and the Harvard Business School (HBS) is using one of our reports for research and teaching.
