It is the announced plan of the Japanese government that STA will be merged with the
Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport (Monbusho). In fact, at a
Japanese Government reorganization in January 1999, Professor Akito Arima, in addition
to his previous position as Minister of Culture, Education, Sport, he was also made the
Chief Executive of STA.
