The following pages are the slides of a Eurotechnology talk given in Japanese language
to Japanese managers leading subsidiaries of German corporations in Japan. The
purpose was raise awareness for cross-culture mangement issues, ethics and conflict resolution and to provide
the initial stages of cross-culture training.
The talk was organized by the German Chamber of Commerce in Japan.
The purpose of the talk is to provide Japanese managers
of German subsidiaries in Japan with cross-culture training. To explain issues involved
in managing German nationals, to explaining some similarities and some differences
in European ( German ) business ethics, conflict resolution and behaviour as opposed to Japanese ethics and
behaviour. The talk also includes a specific section about different methods of cross-culture
conflict resolution. Several games are proposed to deepen the understanding of conflict resolution
behavior and to explain issues of cooperative behavior versus confrontation.
The talk was followed by
a very long and vivid question and answer session. Some questions asked by Japanese
managers:
" are all German employees always unhappy? I have several Germans
reporting to me, and they never laugh and always look depressed..."
" I am trying to recruit a German into my group. I have tried three times, and
every time the person who came from Germany returned after a few weeks to Germany..."
Apologies: At the moment the present slides about cross-cultural training, ethics,
conflict resolution and cooperative behavior are only available in Japanese language.
